The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Rom. 16:20
Heavenly Father, this verse holds so much hope and encouragement for us. Though not fully apparent to our eyes, Jesus defeated Satan once and for all on the cross. Jesus’ victory is being applied to all the chaos, darkness, and evil that mocks your glory and threatens our peace.
The really good news… we will live to see the Day of Jesus’ triumph played out under our very feet. Defeated evil will become eradicated evil. Though at times it feels like we are being walked on by a gloating devil, it is he who will experience our dancing feet on his head. Our labors in the Lord are never in vain. One Day the entire earth will be filled with your glory and shalom, Father. We. Cannot. Wait.
Indeed, the reason Jesus came into this world was to destroy him who holds the power of death (that is, the devil) and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death (Heb. 2:14-15). Hallelujah, because of Jesus, we don’t have to be afraid to die, or live.
Jesus faithfully and fully fulfilled the first gospel promise. His “bruised heel” secured the “crushed head” of the serpent (Gen. 3:15). Satan’s present flurry of fury is actually a sign he knows his time is short (Rev. 12:12). Our weary, longing, joyful, cry is, make “short” real “short.” Make “soon” very “soon.”
When the battle rages most fiercely and the schemes of Satan seem to be winning the day, grant us your peace that passes all understanding and wisdom for that very moment. Father, we don’t merely ask for surviving grace but for thriving grace, until the Day Jesus returns to finish making all things new. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ triumphant and loving name.
