Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 1 Pet. 1:13-16 (ESV)

Heavenly Father, from beginning to end, you have always dealt with us on the basis of your free and sovereign grace. By grace, you created us for a life of unfettered intimacy with you and joyful engagement in your world. Thank you!

By grace, you raised us to newness of life in Christ—out of a life of death, rebellion, and idolatry. By grace, you relate to us on a daily and momentary basis—being steadfast in your love, daily with your mercies, and faithful in your providence. Thank you!

And according to this Scripture, even our future is defined by über grace—consummate grace. Grace in part will give way to grace in full. Your generosity is unfathomable, Father. For so great a hope we worship you; by so great a hope, we enter today’s struggles; towards so great a hope, we long and live.

Father, as your beloved children—fully forgiven and righteous in Christ, we purpose to honor you, in all we think, speak, and do. Intensify our longing for Christlikeness, and grant us convictable hearts, quick repentances, and great joy for doing “your good, perfect, and pleasing will” (Rom. 12:2).

Don’t let us drift from grace back into performance-based or shame-laced living. And don’t let us turn your grace into something it isn’t—a license for disregarding your Word and pampering ourselves into mediocrity. By the power of the gospel, and the work of your Spirit, make us increasingly like Jesus, Father. What more could we possibly want in this life, as we get closer and closer to heaven? So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ magnificent and merciful name.
