“To all who received Jesus—who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (Jn.1:12).

“I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me” (Jn.10:14).

Lord Jesus, March 7th is a big day on my “calendar of grace.” I was birthed into the world Feb. 1, 1950, but born again—born from above on Mar. 7, 1968. I was 100% dependent on you for both births. Thank you for your measureless generosity.

Fifty-six years ago today—as a senior in high school, you raised me from spiritual death, forgave all my sins, and hid my life in yours. You declared your righteousness to be mine, and placed your Spirit in my heart. Nothing can separate me from your love, snatch me from your hand, or keep me out of heaven.

Jesus, as much as I love being able to say that I know you, I am 10,000 times more overjoyed and overwhelmed to hear you say that you “know” me (Jn.10:14). Not as a friendly acquaintance, not merely by face and name, not “just” as my Lord and Savior. Jesus, you know me—and each of us who have received you (John 1:12)—with a depth of intimacy, a degree of delight, and a fullness of affection that is impossible for us to totally grasp this side of heaven—this side of us being glorified at your return.

We wouldn’t merely blush if you let us experience how fully you know and love us. We’d be undone. Jesus, one Day we will, but right now we don’t have the capacity to absorb your undistilled love and unfiltered glory. It would be like a huge waterfall of grace being poured into a 10 oz Styrofoam cup. Hallelujah, and So Very Amen.
