Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. Ps. 63:3–5
Lord Jesus, King David’s words of unbridled adoration, and deep satisfaction, intrigue and invite us. We spend a lot of energy trying to make a “better life” for ourselves. But David speaks of your love as being better than life itself. What a holy paradox. Oh, to know you in such a heart-thrilling, soul-satisfying, life-liberating way.
By the work of the Spirit, take us further into the geography of your great love, Lord Jesus—it’s width, length, height, and depth (Eph. 3:17-19). David danced with shame-free joy because the Ark of the Covenant was returned to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6:1-23).
May we be even more joyful, because you—the Lord of the Covenant, are returning to earth for us. You have taken our guilt and born our shame. You love us today, as much as you’ll love us on that Day. Hallelujah!
Indeed, with “singing lips,” but also with surrendered lives, may we live and love to your glory, Lord Jesus. So very Amen we pray, in your glorious and grace-full name.
