Surrounded by the Pharisees, Jesus asked them a question: “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” Matt. 22:41-42

Lord Jesus, within 48 hours, the Pharisees would seek to “eliminate” you. They “surrounded” you, but depended on you for their next breath. They had no “class,” or clue about who you really are. No question is more central to history and our existence. Life isn’t primarily about our identity, but yours.

Who do we think you are, Jesus? You are Joseph’s son and God’s Son—King David’s root and his shoot. You are Creator, Sustainer, Reconciler, and Restorer of all things—the Alpha and Omega, and everything in between. Angels worship you, stars sing to you, demons tremble before you.

Jesus, you are the Second Adam—our substitute to trust before our model to follow. Your cross is our boast, your righteousness is our robe, and your glory is our passion.

You are our impassioned Bridegroom, and we are your beloved Bride. You are ruler of the kings of the earth, and “end-er” of all wars (including the one in Ukraine). You are gentle and lowly, high and exalted; impossible to contain, yet you inhabit our hearts.

You know us perfectly and delight in us fully. Jesus, there’s not one moment you cease to pray for us, sing over us, and work in all things for our good. Your perfect love expels our fears, and your soon return ignites our hope.  Stunned, humbled, and grateful, we proclaim, So Very Amen!
