The Slice

Can you recall the last time you got a really good night’s sleep? When you woke up feeling rested and ready to tackle whatever the day held? For some of us, this might be a daily occurrence; for others, good rest might feel more like a dream than a reality.

However, sleep is only one type of rest. In her article on Psalm 131, Sarah J. Hauser points out that “humility is a prerequisite for rest.” While we might be tempted to adjust our external surroundings in hopes of quieting our souls, she highlights four ways our pride and reliance on self actually inhibit our ability to rest in God’s promises. Take a minute today to read, reflect, and rest in the Lord—regardless of your circumstances or how many hours of sleep you got last night.
