Grief and gratitude can feel like a strange pairing, but part of being a Christian is learning to hold sorrow and joy side by side. It’s natural to want to move away from pain. But as Whitney Pipkin shares in this episode of The Deep Dish, the valley of the shadow of death is also a place of God’s nearness—a meeting place with Jesus, the Man of Sorrows, the One who understands our grief. Sometimes it’s the valleys, not the mountaintops, that change us and help us become better comforters to others.
