I’ll let you in on the secret to successful fundraising for both politicians and Christian ministries: fear. Nothing will get you to open your pocketbook more quickly. Well, except for loathing. They pair well together, fear and loathing, whether you’re building a Christian ministry or political party or media empire.
But fear and loathing make for brittle, anxious Christians. Instead, our Savior invites us to faith and love. That’s why, in these tumultuous times, I appreciate the message of David Platt in his new book, Before You Vote: Seven Questions Every Christian Should Ask, published by Radical. He’s not setting out to scare you into making him rich. He’s offering a biblical, transcendent, timely word:
Even if we lose every freedom and protection we have as followers of Jesus in the United States, and even if our government were to become a completely totalitarian regime, we could still live in abundant life as long as we didn’t look to political leaders, platforms, or policies for our ultimate security and satisfaction.
Platt, a TGC Council member, spoke with me recently on the Gospelbound podcast (subscribe) about voting, abortion, and President Trump’s visit to his church.
We’re also excited to offer you his new book with a special sale price in TGC’s online store (25 percent off single copies and 50 percent off cases of 52), so you can read and share widely before you vote on November 3.
God is calling us in 2020, as in every other year, to choose faith and love over fear and loathing.
