| Young evangelical pastors and theology students today study the 500-year-old works of Martin Luther, Martin Bucer, and John Calvin—men who sparked and led the revival and reformation in 1500s Europe. Five hundred years from now, young pastors and theologians may read about the Protestant renewal movement occurring in our time in Latin America. As late as the 1960s, more than 90 percent of Latin Americans were Catholic. Then, as Protestantism began to decline in the U.S., it began to grow in the Global South. Alongside Pentecostalism in Latin America, “there’s also a smaller, gospel-centered reformation afoot,” says Sarah Zylstra. Zylstra’s article tells the unexpected story of Miguel Núñez, a Dominican-born doctor practicing medicine in New Jersey who found Christ after his brother’s tragic death, and then was discipled at Christian Medical and Dental Associations (CMDA) meetings and through listening to R. C. Sproul cassette tapes. Núñez later moved back to the Dominican Republic where he became pastor of International Baptist Church in Santo Domingo and an influential catalyst for Reformed theology throughout the Latin world. Núñez’s ministry is marked by passionate preaching, in-depth Bible study, and a commitment to healthy church growth. It’s a testimony to the truth that God is still at work in the world, building his church. At TGC’s 2023 Conference, September 25–27 in Indianapolis, Núñez will deliver a keynote sermon on “Exodus 16: God’s Provision in the Wilderness.” Don’t wait to read about God’s work in history books. Get a first-hand glimpse into what God is doing through servants like Pastor Núñez from around the world. Register soon before the price increases on September 1. See you in Indianapolis! |
