I’m a pastor’s wife. I expend a lot of emotional energy wondering whether my husband and I will finish well in ministry. I see godly men and women fall into temptation after years of faithfulness or break down physically when the never-ending pressure of serving people in need takes its toll. I wonder whether the sum of so many burdens will eventually crush us under its weight.

In the midst of these fears, I need to hear the testimonies of people who, in the words of Paul, are “hard pressed on every side, but not crushed” (2 Cor. 4:8). That’s why I found the panel discussion “How to Endure Suffering in Ministry” so encouraging. Kevin DeYoung, Ray Ortlund, Juan Sánchez, and Collin Hansen discussed openly and honestly the pain of ministry and how they have learned (and are learning) not to run from it. Not to defend themselves. To respond to shame and betrayal in love and confidence that Christ will never leave us.

Whether or not you work in ministry, I hope you’ll find the time to listen to their discussion.
