My generation—Gen X—thought we were the original modern skeptics. We pioneered the eye-roll, perfected ironic detachment, and questioned everything our parents’ generation held sacred. But as Luke Simon shows in his article, “Jesus: Trustworthy Leader for a Gen Z Skeptic,” the torch of cynicism has been passed to Gen Z, who makes our skepticism look like a warm-up act. They’ve grown up watching authority figures crash and burn in real time, not just on MTV.

Simon explains why today’s young people distrust anyone with a title—including “Son of God.” But instead of another cynical takedown, he walks us through his own surprising journey of examining Jesus against his generation’s trust issues. “When I began studying the Gospels,” says Simon, “my questions were deeply influenced by the leadership failures I’d witnessed—yet Jesus passed each test.”

He concludes that Jesus stands apart from the power-hungry leaders we’ve grown to distrust. No ego trips. No manipulation. No pandering to the crowds. Just authentic, counter-cultural leadership that resonates with our exhausted cynicism.

If you’re tired of eye-rolling at institutions but still longing to believe in something real again, this piece speaks directly to that tension. Simon reminds us that regardless of which skeptical generation we belong to, Jesus is the trustworthy leader we’ve been searching for all along.
