| What’s the difference between a bad-faith critic and a good-faith critic? A bad-faith critic misrepresents his opponent’s argument and wants to humiliate him. A good-faith critic seeks to genuinely and accurately understand those he critiques, and he hopes they will change their minds or behavior in response to his arguments. Costi Hinn is a good-faith critique of the prosperity gospel. As the nephew of Benny Hinn, he spent years inside the movement and wholeheartedly believed its teaching. Only when he reached adulthood did he realize he couldn’t reconcile his theology with the Bible, particularly Jesus’s teaching on suffering. Hinn doesn’t vehemently oppose the prosperity gospel because he hates those who follow it. He opposes it out of compassion and love for those who have been (literally) sold a false gospel. Listen to Collin Hansen’s riveting conversation with Hinn, “Costi Hinn Exposes the Most Abusive Kind of False Teaching Today,” to better understand how the prosperity gospel targets and robs the vulnerable, and consider sharing the podcast with someone who has been taken in. |
