| When my editor asked me to promote TGC’s new audio articles feature, I had questions. Mostly one question: Why are we doing this? He patiently explained that people consume content differently now. I pretended to understand what he meant. Maybe it’s a Gen-Z thing. I still don’t completely get it (can’t the reader just, you know, read the article?), but I’m starting to see the appeal after listening to Brett McCracken’s “AI Can’t Beat What We Learn in the School of Our Senses.” This piece, which he recorded himself, is about why our embodied, sensory experience of the world is something AI can never touch. Hearing it in Brett’s voice gives the article something the text alone can’t. Which, given the subject matter, feels appropriate. If you haven’t tried one of our audio articles yet, this is the one to start with. And if you want more, the TGC Podcast is where we’ll release additional audio content. Subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts. I’ll always be a reader. But if the words are worth hearing, does the medium really matter? |
