| I love listening to books during my commute. I’d venture to say I listen to more than two dozen books that way over the year—every little bit adds up. When I’m with my family, however, we listen to all manner of stuff together. As a father of four young children, I’m always in search of good, edifying resources we can enjoy during our drive times—whether a quick errand across town or an extended family road trip (we just survived one over the holidays!). We have our favorites: Randall Goodgame’s Slugs and Bugs, Andrew Peterson’s The Wingfeather Saga, Susan Wise Bauer’s Story of the World, and Focus on the Family Radio Theatre’s production of The Chronicles of Narnia. But we can get in a rut, with the kids groaning, “Not again!” when the CD restarts. This is why I asked Betsy Childs Howard to crowdsource a list of the best resources she’d commend to our readers. As she writes, “Car time can be dead time, or it can be a time to lift your hearts in praise through worship music. It can be a time to stir and shape the moral imagination through stories. It can be a time to memorize Scripture through song.” Next time you hit the road with your little ones, consider one of these resources. Use it as an opportunity to connect, spark conversations, and share in the joy of goodness, truth, and beauty—even in the ordinary moments of your day. |
