My siblings have just rolled out of town with their families. Over the last week, we all packed into my dad’s house to celebrate Christmas together for the first time since my mom died in 2024. Without her, the center of gravity in our family has shifted, and we are still rebalancing.

Some people see their adult siblings all the time or talk to them multiple times a week. Others see them every-other Christmas or not at all. For many of us, our sibling relationships will be the longest relationships of our lives. In spite of this, I’ve never seen a Barnes and Noble display table showcasing books on how to relate with adult siblings. We’re left to our own devices.

That’s why I was especially grateful for The Deep Dish episode “Siblings, Young and Old.” In it, Jen Wilkin, Courtney Doctor, and Melissa Kruger talk about their relationships with their brothers and about how they tried to foster good sibling relationships among their own children.

New covenant believers are expected to relate to each other as brothers and sisters, and we’ve not been left alone to figure out how. We have God’s Word to guide us and the Holy Spirit at work within us. If anyone should be talking about sibling relationships, it’s Christ followers.

Note: At TGC, our goal is to help renew and unify the contemporary church in the ancient gospel. The generosity of you, our brothers and sisters, fuels our work to produce articles, podcasts, videos, events, and resources that equip the church to stand firm on Christ in our uncertain world. Please consider an end-of-year donation today.
